Traffic Calming: Citizen/Government Partnerships

Thursday, January 18, 2007

Click here for printable .PDF announcement.

Many Bay Area communities have adopted programs for Traffic Calming, also known as Neighborhood Traffic Management. Traffic Calming is typically defined as management of vehicular speeds and volumes inappropriate to neighborhood streets, through education, enforcement, and engineering measures, to minimize negative traffic impacts on residents, pedestrians, bicyclists, and schools.

Active citizen participation throughout a process of defining goals, developing action plans, and gaining community support is essential to success. At this meeting, City transportation professionals will share their experiences in citizen collaborations with us, including one neighborhood’s successful fund-raising efforts to contribute a significant portion of a project plan’s costs.
