Pedestrian and Bicycle Planning for Achieving Mode Shift in a Community

Thursday, May 17, 2007

Click here for printable .PDF announcement.

Featuring Presentations By

NIKO LETUNIC, Principal, Eisen/Letunic Transportation, Environmental and Urban Planning

CRAIG TACKABERRY, Assistant Director, Marin County Department of Public Works

State and federal funding opportunities for bicycle and pedestrian facilities typically require that local agencies already have comprehensive plans for such projects in place. At this meeting, Niko Letunic will present best practices in pedestrian master planning, from experience preparing such plans for areas as diverse as San Francisco, Fremont, and Alameda and Sonoma Counties

Marin County is one of four communities nationally that has been selected by Congress to participate in a Nonmotorized Transportation Pilot Program and receive $25 million for improvements for walking and bicycling. The purpose of the pilot program is to demonstrate “the extent to which bicycling and walking can carry a significant part of the transportation load, and represent a major portion of the transportation solution, within selected communities. At the upcoming meeting, Craig Tackaberry will discuss the development and implementation of this program. Read more about Walk-Bike-Marin on the web at walkbikemarin.org.
