The League of American Bicyclists recognized San Francisco as a Gold-level "Bicycle Friendly Community"—even though a court injunction, based on a CEQA lawsuit against the city’s 2005 Bike Plan, has frozen all physical improvements for bicycle circulation since June 2006. A new boom for bike infrastructure is about to hit San Francisco as the city prepares to adopt a fresh Bicycle Master Plan and approve dozens of bikeway improvement projects. Here's your chance to learn and ask questions about how San Francisco got into this strange legal bind and where it's going as it attempts to realize a true "Gold" bicycling environment.

The featured presentations will also cover achievements for bicycle safety and access in the East Bay. These include: the Bikes on BART program; bridge access (7 state toll bridges serve the East Bay); local, county, and regional bicycle plans that reflect detailed information in EBBC published maps; county funding measures to implement the countywide bicycle plans; and adoption of a Routine Accommodation policy by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC). Most recently, the MTC has allocated $1 billion to fully implement the regional bicycle network.
