San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency: Parking & Traffic and Planning Divisions
Student Intern (Summer 2009 Program)

Gain valuable on-the-job experience under the guidance of more than 70 experienced professional engineers and planners. Interns will participate in various activities of the two Divisions, such as design and construction of capital/transportation improvement projects, traffic management, bicycle and pedestrian projects, transportation/transit planning, transit engineering, traffic calming, signal design projects, and intelligent transportation system (SFgo) projects. You can learn more about our Divisions and projects at www.sfmta.com. Part-time work opportunities may be available during the school year. Earn $1,890-$2,125 bi-weekly depending on your qualifications.

Qualifications:

  • You must be attending an accredited civil engineering or city/urban planning undergraduate or graduate degree program at the time of filing. An applicant can be employed up to six (6) months after graduation; otherwise, you must be either returning to an undergraduate program or entering into a graduate program in Fall 2009.
  • You must be considering a career in transportation/traffic engineering or planning. Completion of one or more transportation engineering or planning course(s) is desirable but not required.
  • You must be a US Citizen, green card holder, or have a legal work permit prior to application.

Associate Development Engineer

The Technology Transfer Program, within the Institute of Transportation Studies at the University of California, Berkeley is a comprehensive professional development program for the California transportation community. We cover all aspects of surface transportation - infrastructure design, engineering, planning and policy, safety, the environment, pavements, signals, maintenance, and project development. We offer more than 150 training courses; free information resources; conferences; and technical assistance programs, all geared toward professionals working at state, county, and city transportation agencies in California. We have a full-time staff of 18 located at UC Berkeley's Richmond Field Station and a part-time staff of over 100 instructors located around the state.

We are looking for a Development Engineer to join our team. In this full-time position you will plan, develop and revise courses, cultivate technical assistance programs for local agencies, and create information resources. Actual projects will vary based on your interests. The ideal candidate should have an advanced degree in transportation engineering or planning, and above all, should be dedicated to creating programs that will improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and safety of the entire transportation system for those who work on it and those who use it. Knowledge of California transportation institutions or experience working with state, city, or county transportation agencies is also highly desirable.

Transportation Planner / Project Manager - Environmental / Engineering Climate Change

We are seeking an Experienced Project Manager with 6+ years experience on Transportation Planning projects throughout the California Region.

The ideal individual would have previous experience managing transportation planning, railway, environmental policy and/or economic analysis aspects on projects. This would include having lead project manager experience, overseeing scopes of work, proposal development, budgets, manpower requirements, technical / scientific project details, and managing client relationships. Additionally, you must have abilities to provide emission source, GHG and climate change policy reduction strategies as related to transportation sources, as well as, land use / design strategies.

Position requires a bachelor's degree in Transportation Planning, Engineering or related discipline. MS preferred. Experience writing technical documentation and leading project groups desired.

Senior Admininistrative Analyst & Administrative Analyst II

The City of Mountain View's Public Works Department is seeking qualified professionals who possess superior analytical, interpersonal and communication skills. The position will be filled at either the Senior Administrative Analyst or the Administrative Analyst II level depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected.

The primary responsibilities of the position are to act as the Public Works Department Analyst in regional and local transportation, write and administer grant funding applications and implement other policy-related projects. The position also acts as the liaison to the City Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee and other committees by preparing agendas, minutes and reports. This position prepares reports and makes presentation to the City Council and outside organizations on various topics.

The Administrative Analyst II level requires education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, business, transportation, environmental studies, geography, planning or related field and two years of full-time administrative and analytical experience equivalent to the position of Administrative Analyst I with the City of Mountain View.

The Senior Analyst level requires education equivalent to the II level and three years of increasingly responsible administrative and analytical experience. A master's degree in business or public administration is highly desirable.

Salary: $6,315 to $7,894 Monthly (Senior Administrative Analyst level)
or $6,079 to $7,152/Monthly (Administrative Analyst II).
Salary includes employee's 8 percent PERS contribution for the 2.7% at 55 PERS retirement formula.
