West Coast Multi-State Approaches
to Green Highways and Corridors of the Future
West Coast Corridor Coalition / Western Councils of Government ITS Committee Meeting Oakland, California - September 20, 2007
The Corridor Coalition's Committee on Intelligent Transportation Systems
(ITS) will meet at the Oakland City Center Marriott on September 20 from 2 to 5 PM. The Marriott is the headquarters hotel for the 2007 joint meeting of the Western Councils of Government and the West Coast Corridor Coalition.
The purpose of ITS is to minimize travel times and maximize safety and throughput by gaining full efficiency and capacity from transportation infrastructure. The September 20 meeting has an exciting agenda that includes several of the latest ITS applications, presented by project team leaders in each area:
o Tri-State (Oregon, California, Nevada DOTs) "seamless" 511 traveler information system providing cross-border, real-time traffic and weather conditions on major corridors including Interstates 5 and 80.
o ITS "Gateways" project to minimize pollution and congestion from port-related truck traffic in the San Pedro Bay ports region, and to develop
an integration plan for all aspects of ITS deployment in the Gateway Cities service area.
o Real-time demonstration of GPS-based, on-board, web-based "map integration" system for truckers that transmits information on routing options in response to congestion and ties in with commercial data-bases.
o Update on Cal-Trans research and development of Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (VII), focusing on the current status of VII testing and what VII can do to enhance safety, throughput, and other aspects of commercial and personal travel.
o Update on California and Northwest initiatives for truck "smart park"
information systems on terminal access and on availability of safety rest area parking and electric plug-ins.
We hope you can join us for this content-filled event. Please RSVP to Jennifer Zucati.
