  • Data collection objectives and methodologies of data collection
  • State of the art of the data collection technologies and their drawbacks, and future new technologies
  • Data reliability, processing & quality on "meta" information,
  • Discussions from traffic flow theory to network transportation models,
  • UC Berkeley PATH's highway performance measures and local arterial data collection system,
  • Traffic data needs for the City of Redwood City new traffic model,
  • Traffic impact studies,
  • Highway operations,
  • Data for model calibrations/validations,
  • Integration of models with GIS maps, and
  • Evaluation of ITS applications.

    Getting there

Walking: If you'd like to start your day with a healthy walk: the Redwood Shores Library is 1.5 miles from the nearest Caltrain station (Belmont, not San Carlos). This is a 29-minute walk along Marine Parkway, according to the walking directions provided by Google Maps. (Caltrain arrivals at Belmont: 7:58 & 8:58 NB from San Jose, 7:55 & 8:55 SB from SF.)

By Transit: Event sponsors will provide a free shuttle service from the San Carlos Caltrain station to the Library, if you make a request when you register. The San Carlos Caltrain Station is 2.1 miles from the Library. Morning pick-up at the San Carlos Caltrain station will be provided at approximately 8:55 a.m. Scheduled Caltrain arrival times: 8:07, 8:13 and 8:50 from the north (San Francisco), 8:24 and 8:55 from the south (San Jose). Free rides to the Caltrain station will be provided at the conclusion of the event.

As an alternative to the free shuttle, SamTrans Route 260 provides fixed-route bus service between Redwood Shores and the San Carlos and Belmont Caltrain stations at half-hour headways. Route and schedule information is available at caltrain.com and samtrans.com. Don't forget the 511 Transit Trip Planner for personalized, door-to-door transit directions, or try the new transit directions available from Google Maps.

Driving: From the San Francisco or San Jose areas, take US 101 and exit at Ralston Ave/Marine Pkwy (Exit 412) and turn east onto Marine Pkwy. Free parking provided.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS: The ITE SF Bay Area Section would like to thank ITS California for making a generous donation to partially cover the travel expenses for the invited guest speakers. Many thanks go to the City of Redwood City for providing space in its brand-new facility for this event. The ITE Section would also like to thank the Technical Programs Committee and ITS Coordinators for bringing this world-class technical program within reach of transportation professionals in our region.

NOTE: Mark your calendar for the ITS-CA Annual Meeting in Sacramento Dec. 8-9, 2008.
