Transportation Manager

Prepares, supervises or assists with the preparation of staff reports on transportation and parking related issues for the City Council; makes oral presentations at Council meetings as needed.

Organizes and conducts public, neighborhood and business meetings to obtain input on transportation-related plans and proposals; responds to public inquiries and concerns related to transportation matters.

Hires, trains, directs, and evaluates the traffic engineering staff. Prepares the annual budget proposals for the traffic engineering division; monitors and implements the adopted budget.

Provides technical advice and guidance to planning and engineering staff, Public Works Director and City Manager on transportation matters.

Appears in court as an expert witness on transportation matters.

What you’ll need:

A Professional Engineering license in the United States
A bachelor’s or master’s Degree in civil engineering
At least 10 years of engineering experience developing construction documents
At least 2 years serving in a project and/or design management role
A broad knowledge base in civil engineering, with specific experience in grading, drainage design and 3D modeling, roadway geometric design, and design of accessible public spaces.
Experience in preparing transportation and local agency permit documents.
General experience in coordinating utility and right-of-way impacts and street lighting, traffic signal, and landscape/hardscape layout.
Interest in multimodal and active transportation design (expertise desirable, but not required)
General knowledge of project performance metrics and strategies for monitoring them
Proficiency in Computer Automated Design (AutoCAD or MicroStation) and a design software (Civil 3D, GEOPAK or InRoads) is required
Experience with a stormwater design software is a plus (e.g. HydroCAD or HydroFlow)
